“There is something that you demand not only of your watch, but also of yourself: never stand still.” Walter Lange.

When Ferdinand Adolph Lange, a watchmaker based in Dresden, founded the eponymous manufactory in 1845 in Glasshütte, a small town in a valley of the Saxon metal hills, he placed the first stones of Saxon precision watchmaking and made quality pocket watches , which today are still very sought after by collectors from all over the world. After the Second World War, the company became controlled by the state of East Germany and the name of Lange was practically forgotten.

In 1990, after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany, Walter Lange – grandson of Ferdinand Adolf l’Angel – great-grandson of Ferdinand Adolph Lange – tried to resume activities. Currently owned by the Richemont group (Acquired in 2000), is a solid company with more than 600 employees produces annually, in their newly expanded original workshops, thousands of gold and platinum wristwatches. Manufactured according to traditional standards with state-of-the-art machinery and assembled by expert craftsmen, these pieces are animated by movements developed exclusively by manufacturing, artistically decorated and assembled by hand.

With more than 53 calibers left from its manufacture. A. Lange & Söhne has secured an advanced position in the circle of the best watchmaking brands in the world in just over 25 years.

The Lange 1 occupies a prominent place among the greatest successes of Saxon watchmaking. This iconic piece launched in 1994 is the first serial wristwatch with a large date. The model, moved by a caliber of manual wind called “three-quarter plate” and made of alpaca with bolted gold settings, has contributed to the experts review the basis of good watchmaking quality.

Available in three colors of gold and platinum, is considered by fans, the most characteristic model of the brand. With the off-center arrangement of its dial and the first large-scale date on a standard wristwatch – inspired by the numerical indicator of the famous five-minute clock in the Semper Dresden opera house – it remains today a reference for any new design.

This first watch gave way to a line of products -some of them regulated by a Tourbillon- in which the codes of the first edition are found again. Traditional and innovative, the Lange 1 of the A. Lange & Söhne manufacture has left its mark on the German watchmaking culture and represents an invaluable contribution to the development of precision watchmaking.

This year 2019 pays homage to the watch that 25 years ago, in the residential palace of Dresden, marked one of the most crucial moments in the recent history of A. Lange & Söhne and became an icon in a few years: the LANGE 1.

The “25th Anniversary” edition in white gold, limited to 250 watches, is the beginning of a collection with 10 models dedicated to the most important milestones of the LANGE 1 family of watches; They will be presented gradually one by one throughout the year. The badges that all the models of the edition share are a solid silver argenté dial with numbers printed in deep blue and hour markers, blue date numbers and a blue crocodile skin strap in color coordinated with a gray stitching. The hinged tray engraved in solid white gold is another characteristic feature.
